Elko County Commission: UNR report on mining’s impact to be heard

ELKO — Elko County Commissioners will review a report by the University of Nevada, Reno, University Center for Economic Development regarding the economic impact of the mining industry in Elko County at a Thursday meeting.

The report is titled “An Analysis of the Economic Impacts of the Hard Rock Mining Sector on the Elko Micropolitan Statistical Area.”

Commissioners will also discuss issues related to the revision of the federal 1972 Mining Law.

Because of the Nevada Association of Counties meeting held this week at the Elko Convention Center, commissioners will meet only on Thursday. The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Elko County Courthouse.

- Consider requesting assistance from the Nevada Attorney General to assist the district attorney’s office in the prosecution of William Goff. Goff was arrested Sept. 5 and is charged with two counts of lewdness with a child, 10 counts of sexual assault and 16 counts of using a minor in the production of pornography.

- Hear a report regarding the Highway Department Operational Report and routine road maintenance issues.
