CARLIN - Residents of Carlin may soon see more homes in the area since NV Developers broke ground Monday for a new subdivision, El Dorado Hills.
“A lot of people said ‘you can't build homes in Carlin. It's not going to happen,'” said Mark Schopper of NV Developers LLC.
“I think this is a good thing for Carlin,” Schopper continued. “In spite of what people said, we thought this would be a great thing for the city.”
The developers worked in tandem with the city to make it a “first class development,” said Schopper.
“A lot of work went into this,” said Carlin Mayor Cliff Eklund. “The City of Carlin is really excited.”

Phase one of the project includes 111 homes and once phase two and three are completed there will be a total of 375 homes.
Schopper said the topography of the land will provide “great views” for almost all the homes.
After the ground breaking, the developers hosted a reception at the Red Lion to allow the public to reserve homes.
Peter Gillon of First American Title Company said he was excited about the project.
“Not everyone wants to live in downtown Elko,” Gillon said. “This is an extra choice. Manufactured homes are the up and coming faction of the housing market. Their amenities are so much more effective than a stick-built.”
Schopper said he doesn't like to call the El Dorado homes manufactured houses because of the stigma attached to those types of residences.
“They'll be sitting on a foundation,” he said. “These will be a quality product.”
Homes could be placed on lots as early as March or April, Schopper said.
About 60 homes already have been reserved.
The lots are a third to a half-acre size, about 15,000 square feet, and the homes range from 1,173 square feet to 2,280 square feet. The homes have two, three or four bedrooms and two-car garages.
The homes range in price from $179,900 to $222,900.
