‘Rumble in the Rubies' begins Friday: Organizers planning biggest event ever for eighth annual installment

Ross Andreson/Elko Daily Free Press Motorcyclist Ray Mowrey of Elko takes his son Kane for a ride during the 2007 Elko Motorcycle Jamboree.

ELKO - In its eighth year, the Elko Motorcycle Jamboree is going stronger and has more activities and attractions planned this year than ever before.

The Jamboree, titled “Rumble in The Rubies,” opens at 9 a.m. Friday and continues through noon Sunday.

The event features vendors, a poker run, trials riders, street bike demonstrations, Gold Angels Precision Riding Team, a motorcycle parade, a biker rodeo hosted by the POW/MIA Association, the annual Bike & Hike in Lamoille Canyon, a street dance and the Stockmen's Hotel & Casino biker babe contest.

The keystone event for the Jamboree is the free concert by this year's featured band, Nazareth featuring original guitarist Manny Charlton. The concert starts at 8 p.m. Saturday in the downtown corridor. The group is known for its classic rock hits, “Hair of The Dog,” “Razamanaz” and “Love Hurts.”

Local and regional musical groups will also provide live music throughout the Jamboree on the local stages.
