Where are they Now: What former Elko County athletes did at the college level in 2007-08

Elko

-Kyle Alegria redshirted his first season as a distance runner for the Boise State cross country and track teams.

-Britney Almaguer ran the mile and 1,500 as a junior for the Samford track team. Almaguer took fifth in the 1,500 at the OVC Outdoor Championships and also ran for the Lady Bulldogs' cross country team.

-Everett Brill made 25 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and recovered a fumble as a freshman linebacker for the South Dakota School of Mines football team. Brill also threw the shot put and javelin for the Hardrocker track team.

-Aaron Byers averaged 40.4 yards on 56 punts as a freshman for the Feather River football team.

-Darren Travers was 5-4 with 53 strikeouts and carried a 4.58 ERA, while hitting .136 as a freshman for the Cerro Coso Community College baseball team.

Spring Creek

-Mikey Adams redshirted his first season for the Dickenson State basketball team.

-Jared Braaten was a redshirt freshman pitcher for the Feather River baseball team.

-Sam Botsford averaged 1.7 points and 1.2 rebounds, while tallying 43 assists and 16 steals as a sophomore guard for the Williston State women's basketball team.

-Taylor Checketts scored 2 goals and had 2 assists as a sophomore for the Southwestern Oregon men's soccer team.

-Jennifer Collen who attended Spring Creek through her junior year finished 15th in the long jump (18-5) at the Mountain West Conference track championships and has a career-best 36-9 triple jump as a senior for the Wyoming track team.

-Kriston Gowan was a second team Central Valley Conference honoree after she hit 7 home runs as a sophomore outfielder for Porterville College. Gowan will transfer for Morgan State University this fall.

-Tai Marie Jaques had 46 kills, 8 blocks and 13 digs as a freshman for the Southern Oregon volleyball team.

-J.D. Judd hit .202 with 22 hits, 6 RBIs and 13 walks as a sophomore catcher/infielder for the Clarke College baseball team in Dubuque, Iowa.

-Colin Oke shot in the 80s and 90s as a freshman for the Jamestown College men's golf team.

-Trinity Perkins won a California junior college state title in the 157-pound weight division as a freshman for the Lassen College wrestling team.

-Payton Roberts-Tamayo played defender as a freshman for the Southwestern Oregon men's soccer team.

-Taylor Mieras, who attended Spring Creek through his sophomore year, hit .339 with 37 hits, 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 17 walks as a junior catcher for Western Oregon.

-Jerry Morrell regularly shot in the 70s as a sophomore member of the Southwestern Oregon men's golf team.

-Bryce Saddoris was 35-10 in the 149-pound weight class and qualified for the NCAA Division I tournament as a freshman for the Navy wrestling team.

-Erika Stewart averaged 1.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and tallied 13 assists and 4 steals as a sophomore guard for the Williston State women's basketball team.

-Johnna Ward started two games and averaged 6.7 points and 0.9 rebounds, while tallying 35 steals and 3 blocks for the Nevada women's basketball team.

Carlin

-Cameron Bayne made 15 tackles as a sophomore defensive back for the Nevada football team.

-Janet Friesz completed her junior season as a middle blocker for the Montana Tech volleyball team.

-Andrea Gonzales wrapped up her freshman season for the Feather River softball team.

-Jordy Haney completed his redshirt freshman season as an offensive lineman for the Montana Tech football team.

-Doug Hutchison completed his redshirt freshman season as a linebacker for the Montana Western football team.

-Todd Jensen wrestled in the 157-pound weight class for Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla.

-Mathew Matosich was a true freshman linebacker for the Montana Tech football team.

Wells

-Jake Bottari had a 4-1 record, a 3.18 ERA and 39 strikeouts as a junior pitcher for the College of Idaho baseball team.

-Kelsea Krenka participated in breakaway roping, barrel racing, goat tying and team roping for the College of Southern Idaho rodeo team.

-Marc Morrison participated in saddle bronc and steer wrestling for the College of Southern Idaho rodeo team.

Owyhee

-Shae Hall had 203 kills (4.2 a game), 72 blocks (1.5 a game) as a sophomore for the Lassen College volleyball team.

-Weston Heath participated in bull riding for the rodeo team at Wyoming.

-Michael Vipham ran the 800, 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 for the track team at Treasure Valley Community College.

West Wendover

-Brandon Carter redshirted his first season as an offensive lineman for the Dixie State football team.
