Man arrested in alleged car theft

ELKO - An Elko man was arrested by an Elko County sheriff's deputy on charges of alleged auto theft, possession of a credit card without consent of the owner and possession of stolen property Sunday at Schuckmann's Sports Complex in Spring Creek.

Justin Ray Hansen, 23, was found at 9:46 a.m. sleeping in a car reported stolen by Major Drilling. The deputy also discovered two company-owned gas credit cards in Hansen's possession. Hansen is not employed Major Drilling.

According to Lt. Doug Gailey of the sheriff's office, a safety manager for Major Drilling called the sheriff's office after he saw the car was not where it was supposed to be. Each company vehicle is outfitted with a GPS tracking system, which also monitors the vehicle's speed. The manager was first alerted by the tracking system the car was driven at speeds in excess of 95 mph in the Spring Creek area. The manager drove out to the sports complex, where he discovered the vehicle and a man he didn't recognize in the car.

Bail was set at $12,500.
