ELKO — A Florida truck driver got an unexpected passenger Monday when an eagle went through the windshield of his semi.
At 12:37 p.m. Monday, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper responded to a call that 38-year-old Matthew Roberto Gonzalez of Opalocka, Fla., had struck an eagle with his truck while westbound on Interstate 80 near Wells.
Trooper Jim Stewart, public information officer for the highway patrol, said the eagle hit the passenger side of the windshield and entered the cab. Neither Gonzalez nor passenger Darryl Allan Young, 45, of Miami were injured.
The eagle appeared to be alive shortly after the incident, but information was not available as to whether it later succumbed to its injuries.
